Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is LUMINEERS different than traditional veneer procedures?

LUMINEERS BY CERINATE is unique in that it is contact lens-thin (approximately 0.2 mm) and super translucent. Traditional veneers are fused or bonded to teeth, and generally your dentist will need to grind down the tooth for a good fit. Since LUMINEERS is so thin, little to no tooth reduction is necessary. In addition, LUMINEERS resists micro-leakage and micro-cracking.

2. I’ve heard that a veneer procedure hurts? Is that true with LUMINEERS?

It’s true that because most veneer procedures require a substantial amount of tooth structure removal, that there is pain and discomfort involved. LUMINEERS is completely different because there is no need for grinding, cutting or filing of teeth in almost all cases. Consequently, no anesthetic or numbing shots are needed. Plus, no uncomfortable temporaries are required while you wait for your LUMINEERS to be created. Once the procedure is completed, there is no post-placement discomfort or sensitivity, which means they will look natural and feel comfortable from the start.

3. I think I need braces, but I really don't want to go through the inconvenient, unsightly and time-intensive process. Can I get LUMINEERS instead?

In most cases, yes. Your dentist will be able to evaluate your teeth and decide whether orthodontics is necessary. If you do not have a severe problem, LUMINEERS will change the shape and alignment of teeth, making them look straighter and more uniform.

4. How much does a Lumineers Smile cost?

Fees are determined by your dentist as he/she evaluates your smile needs. Often Lumineer veneer procedures can considerably vary, sometimes only a few Lumineers will dramatically improve your smile and other times more Lumineers can be required. Check with your Lumineers dentist regarding your personal requirements and payment programs that are available.

5. How long will LUMINEERS last?

LUMINEERS has unparalleled longevity. Clinical testing has proven that a LUMINEERS procedure lasts and looks great for up to 20 years. LUMINEERS also offers a 1-year Warranty and are replaced at no charge, ask your dentist for details as certain restrictions do apply

6. Can LUMINEERS be taken off if I want them removed?

Yes, LUMINEERS are completely reversible. This is largely due to the no reduction in sensitive tooth structure so that your natural teeth are still in tact and strong.

7. With LUMINEERS, do I need to use a special toothpaste or floss a different way?

LUMINEERS is similar in structure to real tooth enamel. Consequently, you should always try to choose a low-abrasion toothpaste that will remove plaque, stain and tartar gently but effectively.

8. With LUMINEERS, can I still chew gum and eat my favorite sticky foods like corn or candy?

There are no limitations to what you can eat or drink as LUMINEERS are placed over original teeth in the most durable way possible. However you should continue to visit your dentist every 6 months for a check-up and cleaning to keep your LUMINEERS in good condition and to qualify for the Warranty.

9. I suffer from constant bad breath. How can you help me?

Whether you call it bad breath or halitosis, it’s an unpleasant condition that’s cause for embarrassment. And although it might be right under their nose, some individuals with bad breath aren’t even aware of the problem. And interestingly, other individuals who don’t have bad breath are convinced that they do (this is called halito-phobia). If you’re concerned about bad breath, you need to see your dentist who can help identify the cause and- if it's due to an oral condition- develop a treatment plan to help eliminate it.

10. I always wake up with a sore jaw and a dull headache. Can this be related to my teet?

Do you sometimes find yourself clenching your teeth? you may have a condition called BRUXISM — a habit of grinding or clenching the teeth. In addition to causing discomfort, grinding can wear away or fracture tooth enamel and may eventually loosen teeth. Bruxism can develop at any age, and children as well as adults can have the habit of grinding their teeth. Although the causes of bruxism are not really known, several factors may be involved. Stressful situations, problems sleeping, an abnormal bite, and crooked or missing teeth may be responsible. One of the most common treatment methods for Bruxism is the use of a "Night Guard". It is a device that is constructed to fit on the teeth and worn while you are sleeping to prevent the teeth from grinding against each other. Based on your dentist’s diagnosis, one or more treatments may be recommended.

11. How white will my teeth get after Plasma or Laser Teeth Whitening Treatement?

Results may vary depending on the type of stains. Thickness of enamel, your age, and personal habits.

12. Does teeth whitening work on crowns, veneers or composite fillings?

While results may vary, whitening procedures are generally not designed for crowns, veneers or composite fillings. You should discuss the possibilities of changing old crowns or white fillings with your dentist after a tooth whitening treatment.

13. How long does the whiter color last?

Laser smile whitening results can last for many months depending on your tooth structure and assuming good oral hygiene and reasonable exposure to staining foods and beverages. However, actual results may vary due to individual differences in tooth structure and personal habits.

14. How can I maintain the white color of my teeth?

After the laser smile treatment, you should resume your normal dental hygiene routine. It is recommended that you minimize the consumption of staining foods, such as tea and coffee to maintain your laser white smile, especially for the first 48 hours after treatment. We usually advise our teeth whitening patients to invest in a good Sonic toothbrush such as Philips Sonicare. Researches have proven that the use of Sonicare toothbrush can reduce the staining of the teeth greatly and much more effectively than traditional toothbrushes.
